This award is intended to recognize professional accomplishment beyond the level routinely expected of college faculty and of such excellence that credit accrues to the department, college, and university, as well as to the faculty member. It is made annually by the Dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts on the recommendation of the College Council for Graduate Studies and Research and is based on information supplied by nominees.

  1. Definition

Creative activity may involve performance, composition, theatrical production, film and video, and the various visual art media so long as a product or sufficient documentation can be submitted as evidence of creative activity

  2. Eligibility

College of Communication and Fine Arts faculty who have been employed full-time at least three years are eligible for this award. A substantial portion of the creative activity to be awarded must have been completed while employed in the college. 3. Nomination Process

Faculty may apply for the award or be nominated by a colleague at The University of Memphis.

    • Critiques, reviews, letters of support, or other evidence of a positive response to the creative work from the audience for whom it was produced
    • A representative sample of the applicant’s creative work (slides, film, recordings, etc.), not to exceed 15 minutes in time-based media.

  4. The Award

The recipient will be required to teach only one course in the spring term following the award ceremony so that he or she will be free to devote more time to further research. The awardee will be presented with a plaque in recognition of the achievement and receive a travel stipend to support current research.
